“It’s not enough to have lived. We should be determined to live for something.” ―Winston S. Churchill
Matthew Norton– Founder
I LOVE what I do in coaching and guiding people through assessment insights, encouraging and leading them toward finding and fulfilling their purpose, improving their relationships, and living a greater expression of their strengths and gifts.
With each passing year it becomes increasingly clear to me how precious life is and how quickly it passes. This awareness keeps calling me to go deeper to fulfill the reason I’m here on Earth with the time I have remaining. My hope is for several more decades of health, quality of life, and meaningful contribution. But I’ve certainly learned that there are no guarantees.
My first wife passed unexpectedly at the age of 34 of a heart attack due to a rare congenital anomaly. This occurred less than three years into our marriage and within weeks after I had adopted her twin 5-year-old daughters. This devastated me and ultimately forced me to make a choice; to give up, or to surrender to a deeper purpose. I chose the latter and my healing followed. I made a commitment that day in 1987 to dedicate the rest of my life to helping others find freedom
and their fulfilling contribution.
What is your dream? What are you here to do?
Every dream faces discouragement, and no dream is ever realized without a massive amount of perseverance, surrender, and help from others.
I’m passionate about brain science and human behavior. I’ve conducted various assessments for thousands of people since 1997 and created nine of my own. They provide unique insights into people’s key strengths and signature styles leading to improved interpersonal understanding, communication, and collaboration. The strategic applications of these assessment insights typically result in improved relationship dynamics and business breakthroughs achieved through optimizing leaders and their teams.
I remarried in 1988 and I live in San Diego California with my wife and best friend Judy. We have five children and five grandchildren through a very complicated blended family.

– Connection Director
As the youngest growing up in a family with two combative brothers, training for my role as Connections Director with People + Purpose came early. From reining them in to trying to settle their skirmishes over things like one snatching a chair in front of the TV while the other got a snack from the kitchen, honing my inner drive for harmony and togetherness began at a young age!
At People + Purpose I’m encouraged to work in my strengths and focus on the deeper things that matter to me. When I see our clients—people of all types and abilities—working together, making changes, growing, and being their best selves, I sense I’m serving a bigger cause.
Working alongside our founder Matthew Norton, I enjoy seeing owners, individuals, and teams come together in meaningful, productive ways. What’s key to me at any point in the flow of business is helping people work together better—that to me is the heartbeat of People + Purpose.
